Installation in Bedford Square constructed as part of the exhibition T-Zone: Transfiguration in Architecture
'T-Sone: Transfiguration in Architecture, an exhibition of work by leading Japanese architects Hiromi Fujii, Kei'ichi Irie, Toyo Ito, Yutaka Saito, and Shin Takamatsu, is on show at the Collection Gallery, 264 Brompton road London SW3 until 20 October 1991, and also in Bedford Square. The five architects were invited to select one of five different materials (wood, stone, metal, glass and fabric) to create exhibits that would demonstrate both their individual approach to design and their interpretation of the modern city. The exhibition comprises video environments and installations including Hiromi Fujii's Nave of Signs, constructed outside the AA in Bedford Square. It represents both an opportunity to examine current Japanese thinking about the relationship between buildings and cities in the information age, and starting point for architectural debate. T-Zone forms part of the Japan Festival and is curated by Riichi Miyake and John Thackara. It is dedicated to the memory of Alvin Boyarsky who, as Chairman of the AA, had the original idea of bringing the exhibition to London.'
